Fèz city, known as Fez, is considered the fourth in size in Morocco after the other ones as Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech. It’s the capital of the region called Fez Boulemne and it’s population reaches 946,815. Furthermore it’s the imperial Moroccan city as Marrakech, Rabat, Mekness and Tangier. It’s divided in two great areas, one of it’s the old one city of Fez which is called Fez El Bali, that’s to say the old medina and the walled part, then the second area is Fes Jdid or Fes Ejdid meaning the new city or it’s the same to say the new medina of Fez.

There’s the French-created, a new city of Fez section. Fez el Bali’s the greatest part of this city and believed the largest contiguous car-free area all over the world.Fez el Bali, the old part of the city has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to Adarga, with its prime manufacturing locations with leather goods.Besides, Fez city is the most religious cities of all of Morocco There we can see mosquss and menarets, the home of al karawiyine.

All over the world the’re a lot of islamic university but this is the oldest one.Fez was the capital of Morocco for many times some years ago, the last one ended in 1912 when Morocco came into French hands so Rabat was chosen as the new capital of the colony. It’s a good destination for tourist which is growing years after years so that allows Fez to become into a very popular city where traditional houses (riads and dars) are restoring by non-Moroccans and turning them in a second home in the Fez medina.

In Fez’ city is celebrated a festival lasting a week long every year and it’s round with the presentation of the musical traditions of different countries, artist and performers like Ravi Shankar, Indonesian gamelan and folk music from Asia Central. This festival was founded by the Moroccan philantropist, Faouzi Skali and it’s also sponsored by the World Bank.As added we can say that in 2007 there was a new director, Cherif Khaznadar who gave it a new perspective to the program. This is a very interesting point of destination specialy during the week of the festival and a good time to know new cultures and visit corners of a city with the dichotomy of an old and modern one.

Fez is definitely on my list of cities to see when I travel to Morocco. I really want to see the old city or Fez El Bali. I really love walking and sightseeing in old cities.
